15-Year-Old KING

December 4, 2007

Another great story I thought I would share today on a 15 year old from this years Dunefest event here in Oregon. This was printed this month in Sand Addiction Magazine. Photo was provided by DT :)

Greg Puhl, a 15-year-old from Port Orford, Oregon, won King of the Dunes this year at Dune Fest. Riding a Dave Moore Banshee, he took first in his 401-499cc Class. The winners of each class are entered into the final race of the weekend to get the overall winner of the drags. Greg went through three rounds of bracket racing before he was crowned King of the Dunes.

It is a true family race team: Dad Ron, coordinates the funding and helps in the pits; Brother Nick acts as the team mechanic, and Mom Mary Anne, is his Number One fan. Greg realizes that, without all of them, he wouldn’t be on track at all.

Greg has only been drag racing for about a year-and-a-half. He and his family ride quads around their family cranberry farm and in the Oregon dunes just about every other weekend during the summer. The change to racing came when he got his first Banshee and he was hooked on speed. He appreciates the help that Chuck from CG Performance and Dave from Dave Moore Racing have given him, providing many tips on how to race and what to do to be successful on the track.

When Greg isn’t on his drag bike, he is on his dune bike, also a 2006 Banshee. The family only lives about an hour-and-a-half from the south Oregon Dunes, so heading out for a weekend ride during the summer is no problem. Although they admit, with the new drag bike, their focus this summer has been on racing and not as much on duning.

You can see Greg racing at one of his three favorite racetracks — Albany Motorsports Park, the Oregon Dunes, or Riddle Sand Drags. Catch him if you can!
